MLB Ejection 030 - Marvin Hudson (1; Pedro Grifol)

1B Umpire Marvin Hudson ejected White Sox manager Pedro Grifol (safe call after replay review denial [late challenge request]; QOCY) in the top of the 8th inning of the #Rays-#WhiteSox game. With two out and none on, Rays batter Josh Lowe hit a 1-0 changeup from White Sox pitcher Reynaldo Lopez on the ground to catcher Yasmani Grandal, who threw to first baseman Andrew Vaughn as Lowe arrived at first base, ruled safe by 1B Umpire Hudson. Chicago failed to challenge this play (there were no Replay Reviews earlier in the game). Replays indicate Vaughn's foot appeared to be off the bag when he caught the baseball and that manager Grifol failed to indicate his challenge request prior to the expiration of the 15-second timer following the hold signal immediately after the play, the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Rays were leading, 13-2. The Rays ultimately won the contest, 14-5.

This is Marvin Hudson (51)'s 1st ejection of 2023.

This is the 30th ejection report of the 2023 MLB regular season.
This is the 14th manager ejection of 2023. Ejection tally: 14 Managers, 12 Players, 4 Coaches.
This is Chicago's 2nd ejection of 2023, 1st in the AL Central (CWS 2; MIN 1; CLE, DET, KC 0).
This is Pedro Grifol's first career MLB ejection.
