For the first time in a decade, Foster earned a position in the postseason, serving on Ted Barrett's crew for the Boston-Houston American League Division Series.

Foster's three overturned calls via Replay Review—paired with seven affirmed rulings for a RAP of .700—earned him a RAP rank of ninth in the League, and a tie for sixth place for fewest overturns.
One commenter said, of Foster and the Most Improved award, "he's really the only candidate," and the voting results support that notion: Foster easily won this award, defeating tied-for-second umpires Cuzzi and Iassogna by over 30% of the vote.
