Marty Foster is the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League's 2017 most improved umpire of the year. In his 22nd Major League Baseball umpiring season, Foster ejected three people and drew praise for improvement over the past few seasons working on veteran Mike Winters' crew: "Sometimes you just need that crew you work well with and Foster has found it."

For the first time in a decade, Foster earned a position in the postseason, serving on Ted Barrett's crew for the Boston-Houston American League Division Series.

Foster's three overturned calls via Replay Review—paired with seven affirmed rulings for a RAP of .700—earned him a RAP rank of ninth in the League, and a tie for sixth place for fewest overturns.

One commenter said, of Foster and the Most Improved award, "he's really the only candidate," and the voting results support that notion: Foster easily won this award, defeating tied-for-second umpires Cuzzi and Iassogna by over 30% of the vote.
