With two out and three on, Gardner took a 2-2 fastball from Red Sox pitcher Joe Kelly for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located off the inner edge of home plate and thigh high (px -1.236, pz 2.421), the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Red Sox were leading, 7-3. The Red Sox ultimately won the contest, 9-4.
