Instant Replay Review overturned 2B Umpire Gerry Davis' safe call and confirmed HP Umpire Alfonso Marquez's 2-2 count (record keeping) call in the top of the 1st, confirmed HP Umpire Marquez's safe call in the bottom of the 6th and overturned 1B Umpire Phil Cuzzi's out call in the top of the 7th inning of the Rangers-Mariners game. In the 1st, with none out and one on, Rangers batter Elvis Andrus struck out and baserunner R1 Leonys Martin attempted to steal second base off Mariners catcher John Buck, who threw to second baseman Robinson Cano as Martin slid into second base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Mariners Manager Lloyd McClendon, Davis' ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 0-0.
During the next at-bat, Crew Chief Davis initiated a Replay Review of HP Umpire Marquez's 2-2 count (record keeping), affirming the count at 2-2, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied 0-0.
In the 6th, with two out and two on, Mariners batter Buck hit a 0-1 fastball from Rangers pitcher Joe Saunders on a line drive to center fielder Martin, who threw to catcher Robinson Chirinos as Mariners baserunner R2 Cano slid into home plate. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Rangers Manager Ron Washington, Marquez's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Rangers were leading, 3-2.
In the 7th, with two out and one on, Mariners pitcher Joe Beimel attempted to pick off Rangers baserunner R1 Elvis Andrus at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a request by Rangers Manager Washington and initiation by Crew Chief Davis, Cuzzi's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Rangers were leading, 3-2. The Rangers ultimately won the contest, 4-3.
