Instant Replay Review upheld HP Umpire Mark Carlson's HBP no-call in the top of the 7th and overturned 2B Umpire Jeff Nelson's catch (out) call in the bottom of the 9th inning of the Tigers-White Sox game. In the 7th, with none out and none on, Tigers batter Victor Martinez took a 0-2 slider from White Sox pitcher Chris Sale for a called first ball. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Tigers Manager Brad Ausmus, Carlson's rulings was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Tigers were leading, 1-0.
In the 9th, with one out and none on, White Sox batter Adam Dunn hit a 1-1 fastball from Tigers pitcher Max Scherzer on a line drive to left fielder Rajai Davis, who attempted to catch the ball on the fly. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by White Sox Manager Robin Ventura, Nelson's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Tigers were leading, 4-0. The Tigers ultimately won the contest, 4-0.
