Instant Replay Review upheld 3B Umpire Jeff Nelson's out call in the top of the 3rd and confirmed Nelson's Not HR (live ball, in play) call in the bottom of the 3rd inning of the Rays-Astros game. In the top half, with one out and one on, Rays baserunner R2 Kevin Kiermaier attempted to steal third base off Astros catcher Jason Castro, who threw to third baseman Matt Dominguez as Kiermaier slid into third base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Rays Manager Joe Maddon, Nelson's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Rays were leading, 1-0.
In the bottom frame, with two out and three on, Astros batter Dominguez hit a 0-1 slider from Rays pitcher Chris Archer on a fly ball to deep left field near the outfield wall. Upon Replay Review as the result of unsolicited initiation by Crew Chief Nelson, Nelson's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Tigers were leading, 12-4. The Astros ultimately won the contest, 7-3.
