Instant Replay Review overturned 1B Umpire Tom Woodring's safe call in the bottom of the 6th inning of the Nationals-Cubs Game 1. In the 6th, Cubs batter Anthony Rizzo hit a 3-2 fastball from Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez on the ground to shortstop Ian Desmond, who threw to first baseman Adam LaRoche as Rizzo arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Nationals Manager Matt Williams, Woodring's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Nationals were leading, 1-0. The Nationals ultimately won the contest, 3-0.
