Instant Replay Review overturned 1B Umpire Tim Welke's safe call in the top of the 3rd inning of the Angels-Royals game. With two out and none on, Angels batter Mike Trout hit a 2-1 changeup from Roayls pitcher Jason Vargas on the ground to first baseman Eric Hosmer, who threw to Vargas as Trout arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of challenge by Royals Manager Ned Yost, Welke's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Angels were leading, 2-0. The Royals ultimately won the contest, 8-6.
