Instant Replay Review overturned 2B Umpire Lance Barksdale's safe call in the bottom of the 8th inning of the Indians-Rangers game. With two out and one on, Rangers baserunner R1 Alex Rios attempted to steal second base off Indians catcher Yan Gomes, who threw to second baseman Jason Kipnis as Rios slid into the bag. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Indians Manager Terry Francona, Barksdale's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Indians were leading, 3-2. The Indians ultimately won the contest, 3-2.
