Instant Replay Review overturned 1B Umpire Adrian Johnson's safe call in the bottom of the 5th and upheld HP Umpire Angel Hernandez's HBP call in the top of the 6th inning of the Royals-Blue Jays game. In the 5th, with two out and one on, Rays pitcher James Shields threw to first baseman Eric Hosmer in an attempt to pick off Royals baserunner R1 Anthony Gose. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Royals Manager Ned Yost, Johnson's ruling was overturned, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Royals were leading, 5-4.
In the 6th, with one out and two on, Royals batter Nori Aoki took a 0-0 fastball from Blue Jays pitcher Steve Delabar for a hit by pitch. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Royals Manager Ned Yost, Hernandez's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Royals were leading, 5-4. The Royals ultimately won the contest, 8-6, in 10 innings.
