Instant Replay Review overturned 2B Umpire Tom Woodring's safe call in the top of the 5th and upheld 1B Umpire Paul Emmel's out call in the bottom of the 9th inning of the White Sox-Cubs game. In the 5th, with two out and one on, White Sox baserunner R1 Alejandro De Aza attempted to steal second base off Cubs catcher Welington Castillo, who threw to second baseman Darwin Barney as De Aza arrived at second base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Cubs Manager Rick Renteria, Woodring's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the White Sox were leading, 1-0.
In the 9th, with one out and one on, Cubs batter Starlin Castro hit a 0-1 sinker from White Sox pitcher Ronald Belisario on the ground to shortstop Alexei Ramirez, who threw to first baseman Adam Dunn as Castro arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Cubs Manager Renteria, Emmel's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 1-1. The White Sox ultimately won the contest, 3-1, in 12 innings.
