Instant Replay Review upheld 2B Umpire Gerry Davis' safe call in the bottom of the 3rd and overturned 3B Umpire Chris Conroy's fair ball call in the bottom of the 5th inning of the Giants-Pirates game. In the 3rd, with one out and one on, Pirates baserunner B1 Starling Marte attempted to steal second base off Giants pitcher Yusmeiro Petit and catcher Hector Sanchez, who threw to shortstop Brandon Crawford as Marte arrived. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Giants Manager Bruce Bochy, Davis' ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Pirates were leading, 4-2.
In the 6th, with one out and none on, Pirates batter Andrew McCutchen hit a 0-1 curveball from Giants pitcher Petit on a line drive to left field. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle, Conroy's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the Pirates were leading, 4-2. The Giants ultimately won the contest, 11-10, in 13 innings.
