Instant Replay Review confirmed 1B Umpire Larry Vanover's safe call at first base in the top of the 9th inning of the Angels-Blue Jays game. With one out and two on, Angels batter John McDonald hit a 3-1 sinker from Blue Jays pitcher Brett Cecil on the ground to Cecil, deflected to shortstop Jose Reyes, who threw to second baseman Steve Tolleson to first baseman Edwin Encarnacion as McDonald arrived at first base, Hank Conger out at second. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Blue Jays Manager John Gibbons, Vanover's ruling was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Angels were leading, 9-3. The Angels ultimately won the contest, 9-3.
