MLB Instant Replay Review 219, 220: Bill Welke (03, 04)

Instant Replay Review overturned 1B Umpire Bill Welke's safe call in the top of the 8th and out call in the bottom of the 9th inning of the Diamondbacks-Padres game. In the 8th, with two out and none on, Diamondbacks batter Chris Owings hit a 3-2  fastball from Padres pitcher Joaquin Behoit on the ground to third baseman Alexi Amarista, who threw to first baseman Yasmani Grandal as Owings arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Padres Manager Bud Black, Welke's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 3-3.

In the 9th, with none out and none on, Padres batter Cameron Maybin hit a 1-2 sinker from Diamondbacks pitcher Oliver Perez on the ground to second baseman Aaron Hill, who threw to first baseman Paul Goldschmidt as Maybin arrived at first base. Upon Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Padres Manager Bud Black, Welke's ruling was reversed, the call was incorrect. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 3-3. The Padres ultimately won the contest, 4-3.
