1B Umpire Seth Buckminster ejected Phillies 1B Coach Juan Samuel for Unsportsmanlike-NEC (arguing a previously argued call*) in the bottom of the 5th inning of the Dodgers-Phillies game. In the top of the 5th, with two out and none on, Dodgers batter Yasiel Puig hit a 1-2 sinker from Phillies pitcher Roberto Hernandez on the ground to third baseman Cesar Hernandez who threw to first baseman Ryan Howard after Puig's arrival for an infield single. Replays indicate the batted ball struck Puig's foot before caroming into the infield, the call was irrecusable.* At the time of the ejection, the Dodgers were leading, 2-0. The Dodgers ultimately won the contest, 2-0.
This is Seth Buckminster (67)'s third ejection of the 2014 MLB Regular Season.
Seth Buckminster now has -5 points in the UEFL Standings (-8 Prev + 3 AAA + 0 Irrecusable = -5).
Crew Chief Fieldin Culbreth now has 9 points in the Crew Division (8 Previous + 1 U = 9).
*The Reason for Ejection is deemed Unsportsmanlike-NEC pursuant to UEFL Rule 6-2-b-5-b, also known as the DiMuro Rule. Replays indicate that at the time of the initial play, Phillies Manager Ryne Sandberg met with HP Umpire Manny Gonzalez to argue the play, which stood after crew consultation. Whether a batter is hit by a batted ball is not reviewable; Replay Review may be used to determine only whether a batter has been struck by a pitched ball. For more information, see the Replay Review Regulations for 2014.
**Similarly, Umpire Classification (calling or secondary) is irrelevant because irrecusability is not a points-affecting variable as in Rule 6-2 (Irrecusable Call = 0 QOC Points).
This is the 55th ejection of the 2014 MLB Regular Season.
This is the Phillies' 1st ejection of 2014, T-3rd in the NL East (NYM 3; ATL 2; MIA, PHI 1; WAS 0).
This is Juan Samuel's first ejection since July 22, 2010 (Bill Hohn; QOC = U [Arguing an Ejection]).
This is Seth Buckminster's first ejection since May 16, 2014 (Nolan Arenado; QOC = N [Ball/K]).
