In the 7th, with none out and none on, Mariners batter Mike Zunino hit a 1-2 sinker from Astros pitcher Chad Qualls in the air to deep left field near the foul pole. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a request by Mariners Manager Lloyd McClendon and initiation by Crew Chief Jeff Nelson, Pattillo's ruling that the ball exited the playing field in foul territory was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Astros were leading, 6-2.
In the 8th, with one out and one on, Mariners batter Corey Hart hit a 2-2 sinker from Astros pitcher Matt Albers on the ground to shortstop Jonathan Villar, who threw to second baseman Jose Altuve as Mariners baserunner R1 Robinson Cano arrived at second base. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Mariners Manager McClendon, Nelson's ruling that Altuve caught the ball and legally tagged second base prior to Cano's arrival was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Astros were leading, 7-2. The Astros ultimately won the contest, 7-2.
