Instant Replay Review overturned 2B Umpire Doug Eddings' safe call in the top of the 9th inning of the Padres-Nationals game. With none out and none on, Padres baserunner R1 Yonder Alonso attempted to steal second base off Nationals pitcher Rafael Soriano and catcher Jose Lobaton, who threw to second baseman Danny Espinosa as Alonso slid into second base. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Nationals Manager Matt Williams, Eddings' ruling that Espinosa did not tag Alonso while he was off his base was reversed, the call was incorrect.* At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 3-3. The Padres ultimately won the contest, 4-3, in 12 innings.
