Instant Replay Review upheld HP Umpire Greg Gibson's Rule 7.13 violation no-call (out) in the bottom of the 1st inning of the Royals-Indians game. With one out and one on, Indians batter Jason Kipnis hit a 1-1 eephus from Royals pitcher Bruce Chen on the ground to first baseman Eric Hosmer, who tagged first base and threw to catcher Brett Hayes as Royals baserunner R3 Asdrubal Cabrera slid into home plate. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a request by Royals Manager Ned Yost and initiation by Crew Chief Bill Miller, Gibson's ruling that Hayes did not block home plate in violation of experimental Rule 7.13 and tagged Cabrera ahead of his touch arrival was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 0-0.
