Instant Replay Review confirmed 2B Umpire DJ Reyburn's safe call in the top of the 9th inning of the Diamondbacks-Cubs game. With none out and one on, Diamondbacks batter Tony Campana hit a 3-1 fastball from Cubs pitcher Pedro Strop on the ground to shortstop Starlin Castro, who attempted to gather the loose baseball as Diamondbacks baserunner R1 Chris Owings arrived at second base via a feet-first slide. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Cubs Manager Rick Renteria, Reyburn's ruling that Castro did not possess the ball and tag second base prior to Owings' arrival was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Cubs were leading, 5-2. The Diamondbacks ultimately won the contest, 7-5.
