Instant Replay Review upheld 2B Umpire Dan Bellino's safe call in the bottom of the 1st inning of the Diamondbacks-Cubs game. With none out and none on, Cubs batter Emilio Bonifacio hit a 2-2 curveball from Diamondbacks pitcher Mike Bolsinger on the ground to center fielder Tony Campana, who threw to second baseman Aaron Hill as Bonifacio slid head-first into second base. Upon Instant Replay Review as the result of a challenge by Diamondbacks Manager Kirk Gibson, Bellino's ruling that Hill did not tag Campana while off his base was affirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the Diamondbacks were leading, 1-0. The Diamondbacks ultimately won the contest, 5-2.
