HP Umpire Alan Porter ejected Rangers SS Elvis Andrus for arguing a strike three call in the bottom of the 3rd inning of the Astros-Rangers game. With two out and none on, Andrus took a 1-2 fastball from Astros pitcher Brett Oberholtzer for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located knee high and over the inner half of home plate (px -.603, pz 1.639 / sz_bot 1.460) and that all other pitches during the at-bat were properly officiated (the only other called strike was located at -.273, 1.629), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 0-0. The Rangers ultimately won the contest, 1-0.

Toby Basner has had an eventful day during the Mets-Angels game. He has tossed both Wright and Murphy.......
ReplyDeleteIt's always telling when the guy who actually strikes out says absolutely nothing and instead a teammate barks from the dugout. Also the Mets getting their butt whooping at the hands of the angels is a contributing factor.
ReplyDeleteBasner had an inconsistent strike zone all game, in my view, and he had players and coaches on both teams barking at him at various times. Not surprising that this happened. Wright had an animated discussion with him earlier in the game, so this was likely a carry over from that. Mike Trout from the Angels did, as well.
ReplyDeleteHere come the ejections!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBrian O'nora and the yankees redsox is always interesting.

Yeah, the PitchFX maps for this game aren't pretty.
ReplyDeleteAnother contributing factor is the catcher pulling the pitch up. Pitch-fx really had that at the knees? I'm not arguing the numbers, but that pitch looked a little low to me.
ReplyDeleteTypical announcing.
ReplyDeleteI watch pretty much every Mets game, and the announcers are usually pretty fair to the umpires. In Saturday night's game, they couldn't have praised the job Basner did at first base any more. There were several very close calls at first base, and he got every one of them right. I remember them praising Clint Fagan the other night, as well.
ReplyDeleteBob Davidson just ejected John Farrell after arguing an instant replay overturn
ReplyDeletedefiantly related to yesterdays missed call
ReplyDeleteBob Davidson just ejected John Farrell arguing a play at first which was ultimalty overturned and confirmed with Onora, Davidson and the NY Center replay headquarters. Farrell was pissed because he didn't get a call by 2nd base fill in for one day ron kulpa and onora and command center for a play at 2nd Saturday. Replay is starting to become facinating isinit. Hahha mangers and players. You cant argue balls and strikes, AND INSTANT REPLAY. Problem here though is you cant flip a coin, the call could have gone either way, but when i saw it again it looks like the right call.
ReplyDelete@sportsmania, your 100% right, Fact of the matter is, when I saw the actual argument with davidson and farrell, farrell even said that he was pissed about yesterdays call, im not a lipreader, but you will see it again when they show it. He would be less demonstrative for sure if that call yesterday was in the red sox favor.
ReplyDeleteyeah I read his lips and it looked like he was talking about yesterday's call as well as a bunch of f-bombs
ReplyDeleteYep it defiantly looked like he said that. I thought he said that but I thought that I was a little crazy so at least we know I'm not crazy..... right now
ReplyDeleteI still believe 99%+ of announcers do not know what an equipment violation is...
ReplyDelete... you realize he was quite animated, right?
