Instant replay affirmed 3B Umpire Tripp Gibson's out call in the top of the 1st inning of the Athletics-Rangers game. With one out and two on, Athletics batter Alberto Callaspo hit a 3-1 pitch from Rangers pitcher Ryan Feierabend to left fielder Mitch Moreland, who threw to shortstop Josh Wilson attempting to tag Athletics baserunner R2 Sam Fuld. Upon instant replay review as the result of a challenge by Athletics Manager Bob Melvin, Gibson's ruling that Wilson tagged Fuld while Fuld was off his base was upheld, the call was correct. At the time of the review, the contest was tied, 0-0. The Rangers ultimately won the contest, 6-2.

Is Gibson the lead umpire for instant replay now, four for four? And is it just me or are most challenges being thrown against the call up minor league umpires? Sort of that good old boys network idea epitomized by Ned Yost's comment to Will Little last season, "you don't belong here"
