Instant replay affirmed 2B Umpire Pat Hoberg's safe call in the top of the 5th inning of the Diamondbacks-Dodgers game. With one out and two on, with Mike Jacobs at bat, Diamondbacks baserunner R1 Didi Gregorius attempted to steal second base on a 2-0 pitch from Dodgers pitcher Zach Lee as shortstop Hanley Ramirez attempted to apply his tag off the throw from catcher A.J. Ellis. Upon instant replay review as the result of a challenge by Dodgers Acting Manager Tim Wallach (Mattingly: bereavement leave), Hoberg's ruling that Ramirez's tag did not touch Gregorius when Gregorius was off the base, and that Gregorius remained on the base throughout the tag was confirmed, the call was correct. At the time of the instant replay review, the Diamondbacks were leading, 3-2. The Diamondbacks ultimately won the contest, 9-2.
