Instant replay affirmed 1B Umpire Paul Schrieber's out call in the bottom of the 1st inning of the Padres-Diamondbacks game. With one out and one on, Diamondbacks batter Paul Goldschmidt hit a 1-2 pitch from Padres pitcher Eric Stults to first baseman Tommy Medica, who, after deflecting the ball, attempted to retire Goldschmidt by beating him to first base. Upon instant replay review as the result of a challenge by Diamondbacks Manager Kirk Gibson, Schrieber's ruling that Medica tagged first base prior to Goldschmidt's touch arrival was upheld, the call was correct. At the time of the instant replay review, the Padres were leading, 1-0. The contest ultimately ended in a tie, 2-2, in 10 innings.

I think replay is changing the way these veteran guys think. My opinion is that Bob would have rung him up last year, but he is mindful of the eye in the sky so he thought better of it.
This replay system is flawed. Easily out. How are they not getting these right?
Looked to me like the hand got the plate before the tag. I think it will be a lot easier once they have more camera angles though.
Never mind. I thought I was posting on the Bob Davidson thread.
what replay were the umpires looking at? That's horrible. If they aren't going to get it right with replay then we shouldn't have it at all.
What was Gerry Davis looking at when reviewing this play?
