It's too bad the umpires had their heads up their asses here. Cue the apologists in 3.. 2.. 1..
From AP: Davidson took the blame for missing the call: "That's really on me because I should've seen the ball change directions," Davidson said following the game.
Glad to see he at least could fess up. Have a feeling Muchlinski won't be seeing more work anytime soon after that one.
Are you implying that an attempt to explain the reasoning behind a missed call by demonstrating the series of events and facts leading to said call being missed is in some way a negative thing as opposed to a necessary element of intelligent discussion regarding any such situation?
Or perhaps you mean something else than the other people who have thrown that term around, in which I would like to request you elaborate upon what you mean by "apologists".
In football you don't stop playing until you hear the whistle. In baseball you don't stop playing until the umpire signals dead ball.
Yes tell me when you can see through people that's clearly a tough call just cause a ball change direction does not mean a bat hit it. could of just been teh way the ball was thrown or it just hit something even.
How about getting out of your La-z-boy, put down your beer, go to pro school, and get a job so you can show us how good you are!
Missed call, it happens. But I certainly see why Pena and Leyland were tossed. Tigers won, so it is a moot point, but if they hadn't (at this time of the season) I can see why they would be chagrined.
"This is Bob Davidson (61)'s first ejection of 2013."
Huh. Ain't that something.
How come we can hear Muchlinski say "Ball, no." On the video but Pena couldn't? Muchlinski missed the call, sure, but part of that is on Pena for being his own umpire.
That was a terrible call.
i can't believe it took until mid-August for Davidson's first ejection. But, that is vintage Bob in throwing someone out very quickly while the call was totally wrong.
At least replay next year will alleviate errors like that.
I'd say "Umpire Transference" is more accurate here.
I'm actually curious; will a play like this be reviewable? It was called a ball, does that make it a ball/strike call? How does the actual language of the new replay rule interpret this?
If the runner was only on 1st he still might have scored on the double.
I was thinking that was a possibility, but I couldn't tell in the video how far down the line the ball went nor am I too familiar with that park's bounces and all that, so I didn't want to mention it.
Yup, he's working almost full time as a call up -- he's going to be buried because of one missed call, one he couldn't possibly see.
Right.
Anybody see why Davidson ejected Leyland in the first place? I didn't see on this reply that Leyland was even approaching Davidson...
