After Harper gets hot, Hunter stays cool. |
This is Hunter Wendelstedt (21)'s third ejection of 2013.
Hunter Wendelstedt now has 10 points in the UEFL (6 + 2 MLB + 2 Correct Call = 10).
Crew Chief Jerry Layne now has 4 points in the UEFL's Crew Division (3 + 1 Correct = 4).
This is the 96th ejection of the 2013 MLB season.
This is the 42nd player ejection of 2013. Prior to his ejection, Harper was 0-3 in the contest.
This is the Nationals' 3rd ejection of 2013, 3rd in the NL East (ATL 5; NYM 4; WAS 3; MIA, PHI 2).
This is Bryce Harper's 2nd ejection of 2013 and first since May 5, 2013 (John Hirschbeck; QOC = Y).
This is Hunter Wendelstedt's first ejection since May 16, 2013 (Eric Wedge; QOC = Y).
Wrap: Washington Nationals vs. Miami Marlins, 7/13/13
Video: After Hunter's correct call, Harper yells, aggressive gestures and is thrown out for his act (MIA)
Video: After striking out looking for a second time, Harper demonstratively objects and is run (MIA)
3rd ejection in his very short career.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I'd be pissed all the time too with that haircut.
I love the National's response to this:
ReplyDeleteDavey Johnson: "You can’t do that. Take it out on the pitcher. Don’t take your frustration out on the umpire."
Ian Desmond: "He cannot, in a one-run ballgame, get ejected. We need that game. That's a game you have to stay in no matter what. I think he may or may not realize the ramifications of him getting ejected tonight, but hopefully he learns from it and we can move forward from it."
Meanwhile, Harper sounds like an idiot...
“The first two ABs I didn’t think he was calling anything on the outside half,” Harper said, explaining himself. “I got 2-0, (Marlins starter Jose) Fernandez wasn’t really coming at me. (Wendelstedt) called a pitch that was right down the middle 2-0, so it was 2-1 and then the next two weren’t even close. I really don’t think they were close at all and I got pretty upset about that one. I let it go a little bit.
“The next AB (against Jennings), he was throwing a waste pitch up. I knew he was throwing a waste pitch up and I knew he was going to come back with the slider if he wasn’t going to call a strike on that. He called a strike and I wasn’t going to take it. There’s no shot. I looked back at him, gave him a piece of mind. Got out what I wanted to get out, and he threw me out.”

Brycie Poo better start cleaning up his act, or his leash, like Upton and a couple of others, will start getting REAL short!
ReplyDeleteharper's leash is already ridiculously short, rightfully so in my opinion. The kid has an attitude and if somebody on his team doesn't start straightening him up he's going to end up being the next milton bradley or bj upton. If Harper doesn't figure it out soon I'm sure Davey and the Nationals' front office staff will help him figure it out. Problem is the kid his talent, but his attitude is going to get him into more trouble than his talent is worth to the team.
ReplyDeleteThe kid is a joke. And the Nationals have continued to allow him to be one. Their entire organization is a joke with how they've handled Harper and Strasberg.
ReplyDeleteI'm just wondering where all the "players are rats" people are at. Or the ones who claim "3 ejections in 9 years is too many" nonsense. Here this kid gets ejected pretty often. He's a crybaby who is used to getting his way or he's going to let everybody know it..
Agreed.....or this is gonna look like Delmon Young 2.0
ReplyDeleteThe Marlins have good microphones. I wish they would of kept them on.
ReplyDeleteMaybe this had something to do with this: http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/cache/numlocation.php-pitchSel=605228&game=gid_2013_07_13_wasmlb_miamlb_1&batterX=40&innings=yyyyyyyyy&sp_type=1&s_type=3.gif
ReplyDeleteI just don't think there's a way that an umpire should be rewarded for this. He screwed Harper twice, and then gets a borderline pitch to go his way.
Do we have the numbers on Mark Wegner for LIncecum's no-hitter yesterday?
ReplyDeleteYou've attributed the video clips to MIA, even though this was a nationally-broadcast FOX game.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't you take a look at the pitch track from the first AB that started all of this. To sit here and glorify Wendelstedt over Harper for this AB is sad; these hitters expect consistency throughout the game. Just a bunch of Harper haters on here.

"Harper sounds like an idiot". For what? explaining how these batters analyze a pitcher during an AB? This 20yr old is breaking down an AB in his head before it happens.
ReplyDeleteTichenor threw out Gomes in Oakland for not allowing time.
ReplyDeleteYou can't show one AB and then use the word consistency, it defies the definition of consistency. Here is the plot for all of the lefties that game..and it looks pretty consistent to me, only two pitches the entire game out of place.
ReplyDeleteI've posted the full game plot for LHH below. Not a bad job at all by Wendelstedt. Those two pitches were called strikes all night long.
ReplyDeleteNo, for blaming it on the umpire.
ReplyDeleteAgain, whether or not a batter is "technically" correct or not, arguing balls and strikes is about as effective to pissing into a strong wind while wearing white pants and shoes. Agree or not, STFU and you won't get tossed! Oh, and don't look at a "borderline" pitch with 2 strikes and "let the umpire" control the at bat (so to speak)...
ReplyDeleteHarper leaves a lot to be desired. He's a crybaby. This is just another one of his antics. He needs to grow up and give up the whole "being 19 in MLB" act.
ReplyDeleteBatters want consistency you say?
ReplyDeleteWasn't terribly sure just by taking that one pitch at face value, though I was leaning toward correct - from seeing the pitch plots to left-handed hitters during the game, and the argument he lodged with Hunter over the pitch in the 6th inning (over what was a VERY good pitch on the corner, WAY too close to just watch) basically confirmed it. Strike three, and SIT DOWN.
ReplyDeletehe is going to get his very own strike zone that is 3 inches bigger than everyone else's. Look at what happened to Robbie Alomar.
