Typo in the points, 1+1=1???
ReplyDeleteNo... you dong get points for an incorrect crew call. So in this case 1+1 really does equal 1.
ReplyDeleteLOL, you said "dong". (In Butthead and Beavis voice) Huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh huh....=)
ReplyDeleteIt appears he IS safe, but man, that is damn close. Like almost as close as the call Greinke got tossed for arguing last year with Holbrook (I still affirm that is as close to a "tie" as you get). I can see why Bochy is upset, and am surprised he got the quick heave-ho, but I can also understand how Miller got this one "wrong". Human element....
ReplyDeleteThe real video link. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=26714017&c_id=mlb
ReplyDeleteIf you don't get points, it should say 1+0, not 1+1.
ReplyDeleteHorrible call. I wonder how stupid the umpires feel after a play like this.
ReplyDeleteyou've obviously never have worked a game.
ReplyDeleteI disagree, blindrid. I've worked plenty of HS and NCAA (although no MiLB or MLB-yet!-), and this wasn't that close, IMHO. What's more, I do feel bad about kicking a call when it happens. I don't like it, both for myself (striving for excellence) and for the team (striving to be fair). I wouldn't say I feel "stupid," but I definitely feel bad.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think it was that close, actually. I'm surprised Miller missed it, and I bet Miller is, too. In my (non-MLB or MiLB) experience, that's actually a recipe for a "quick heave-ho" as you put it. It takes a lot to sit there, maybe wondering if you did miss it or knowing that you did, and listen to a guy rag on you.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that this was necessarily a quick heave-ho. The video is edited, and the heave-ho happened at some point during the commercial break, not necessarily the way it is portrayed in the video.
ReplyDeleteProbably as stupid as Ron Gardenhier felt after he watched the replay of that play at 3rd base...
ReplyDeleteI agree that it doesn't appear to be THAT close. Bochy usually doesn't argue unless he really feels he has a case
