HP Umpire Sean Ryan ejected Cubs OF Jorge Soler for fighting: attacking the opposing dugout while brandishing a baseball bat during a bench-clearing incident following the bottom of the 7th inning of the Threshers-Cubs game. With one out and three on, Cubs batter Stephen Bruno hit a grounder to Threshers shortstop Jonathan Roof, who threw to second baseman Carlos Alonso to first baseman Harold Martinez to complete the double play. Apparently feeling he had been stepped on, Soler exchanged words with Alonso, predicating the brawl-less incident before both teams returned to their dugouts. According to eyewitness account, Soler then allegedly grabbed a bat from the Cubs dugout and charged the Threshers dugout and had to be restrained by Javier Baez and Cubs hitting coach Mariano Duncan. At the time of the ejection, the Cubs were leading, 8-7. The Threshers ultimately won the contest in 11 innings, 14-9.
