In the bottom of the 8th inning of the International League's Wilkes-Barre Yankees-Pawtucket Red Sox contest, with one out and one on, Yankees batter Melky Mesa hit a 0-0 fastball from De La Torre to deep left field and toward the foul pole. Initially ruled a foul ball by home plate umpire Gosney, after consultation with crewmates Chris Ward (1B) and A.J. Johnson (3B, working at the second base "B" position, or "Position 3"), the call was reversed to that of a home run. Limited replays do not indicate the flight of the ball relative to the foul line, the call is inconclusive. At the time of the ejections, the Yankees (Scranton/WB) were leading, 8-2. The Yankees (Scranton/WB) ultimately won the contest, 8-5.

It appears that Gosney is still learning the art of bump entrapment. Someone needs to tell him that if he's going to feign getting bumped, he must not allow the camera to catch him bowing up his chest and sticking out his gut when contact is made. He struck the same pose with both Sauveur and the pitcher. I'm thinking the false bumping is the reason 2 people had to be pulled off of him.
Alternatively, if Gosney did not do this intentionally, and his gut just naturally sticks out like that when he turns his body, then it's time to switch to Mic Ultra. It is not the coach/player's fault if the umpire's protruding belly causes contact.
Fake bumps aside, all 3 were airtight, righteous ejections. Great job by the rest of the crew too, especially with Sauveur. Rich Sauveur is a big man. It could not have been easy to hold him back. And God bless the third umpire that came in and actually got Sauveur away. Smallest guy on the crew and he managed to push Sauveur back in as non-confrontational a manner as possible under the circumstances. Look closely and you can see that he pushed Sauveur back without even really using his hands to do it. That was an awesome job.

i'm going to keep saying and teaching this UNTIL it happens.... UMPIRES LISTEN TO ME..... if you change a call before you let the world know what the call is you need to tell the other manager by calling him out of the dugout and letting him know what exactly is going on.... This lets him come out calmly and you MIGHT have a chance of keeping him in the game. If you do not handle it in this manner you get a SH!t house.
I agree 100% tmac. I use this tactic anytime a call is changed, whether I am the one changing the call or my partner is.
Some guys are still going to lose it, but it seems to happen much less often.
Good in theory but what about the times when the manager knows that by reversing the call is correct? Now you bring him out of the dugout for no reason?? and potentially create an arguement when he may never come out in the first place.

I have no clue what you're talking about by saying, "what about when the manager knows by reversing the call is correct"
Ummmm have you ever changed a call that the manager in a professional baseball game didn't come out on? Once in my life that happened and that was b/c my partner was well not good. I think at ALL levels good communication will keep you out of trouble for the most part

BLUE JAYS SHORTSTOP YUNEL ESCOBAR WAS EJECTED BY HOME PLATE UMPIRE JEFF NELSON IN THE TOP OF THE EIGHTH INNING. Jeff nelson good ump called two balks by himself in this game.
The ump who backed Saveur away, I believe is A.J. Johnson who was involved in the Jim Evans KKK affair.

Kolin Kline whose team caused all the commotion has been promoted to AAA recently. So either he was held blameless or there are some Grand Dragons in the umpire heirarchy.
