Injury: Bill Miller Leaves Angels-A's Game After Hit to Head
Spurring the concussion discussion, HP Umpire Bill Miller left Wednesday's Angels-A's game five innings after being struck with a Zack Greinke fastball on the chin portion of his mask in the 1st inning. After calling two different Oakland Athletics batters out on two strikes (Brandon Inge [5th] and Cliff Pennington [6th inning]), the umpires convened and Miller left the contest due to injury. 2B Umpire Dan Iassogna retreated to the umpire's dressing room to put on his plate gear and take over behind home plate, pursuant to OBR Rule 9.02(d), while crew chief Dale Scott remained at first base and CB Bucknor remained at third.
OBR Rule 9.02(d):
No umpire may be replaced during a game unless he is injured or becomes ill.
