Ejection 119: Rob Drake (2)

HP Umpire Rob Drake ejected Rays Manager Joe Maddon for arguing a strike call in the top of the 7th inning of the Rays-Mariners game. With two out and none on, Rays batter Matt Joyce took a 0-1 fastball from Rays pitcher Felix Hernandez for a called first strike.* Replays indicate the pitch was located belt high and several inches off the outer edge of home plate (px -1.121), the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Mariners were leading, 1-0.

This is Rob Drake (30)'s second ejection of 2012.
Rob Drake now has -4 points in the UEFL (-2 Previous + 2 MLB + -4 Incorrect Call = -4).
Crew Chief Joe West now has 5 points in the UEFL's Crew Division (5 Previous + 0 Incorrect call = 5).
*Hernandez pitched a no-hit, perfect game.

    Drake has been really quiet this year, especially considering he led the bigs in ejections last season. But then again, Drake only had 2 in 2002 after 13 the previous season. He also had only one in both 2007 and 2009, and 2006 was also a two ejection year. I guess Drake is a Jekyll and Hyde type umpire.

    We retrieve this information from MLB Gameday. Brooks is only involved in the generation of the strikezone plot, not the creation of the px values.

    I gotta say this isn't ejection related, but wow again the ray's no hit!!! every time there's a perfect game or no hitter, the rays are the team no celebrating, they rely why to much on pitching, feel bad, good team im not even a rays fan.

    I counted it took cowboy joe about 1 minute to come over and be a bodyguard similar to what he did last year with Tito Francona - this is a very interesting crew with west drake Holbrook who has had share of controversy this season and then Andy fletcher who seems to never eject anybody or be injured

    Honestly, maddon saved joyce here . Joyce was saying that's not a strike and was about to start yelling when maddon got tossed. Joyce was still lucky to not get tossed

    @ Anon 4:28: Kirk Gibson was ejected from Tom Browning's perfect game in 1988 for arguing a called 3rd strike, Jim Quick was the plate umpire.

    Anon August 16, 2012 7:56 AM - are you serious? He misses a pitch that wasn't even for strike 3 and you're telling him to go home. Got news for you, that probably wasn't the only pitch he missed that game but overall, he did a great job. If you're going to crucify him/umpires for missing a pitch, then why have them out there at all? Maybe they should ALL go home eh?
