HP Umpire Mike Estabrook ejected Angels pitching coach Mike Butcher for arguing a ball call in the top of the 1st inning of the Mariners-Angels game. With one out and none on, Mariners batter Kyle Seager took a 3-2 fastball from Angels pitcher Jered Weaver for a called fourth ball. Replays indicate the pitch was located thigh high and off the inner edge of home plate (px value of .996) while the 0-1 pitch ruled a ball was located belt high and slightly off the inner edge (px value of .840), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the contest was tied, 0-0. The Mariners ultimately won the contest, 4-1.
This is Mike Estabrook (83)'s first ejection of 2012.
Mike Estabrook now has 5 points in the UEFL (0 Previous + 3 AAA + 2 Correct Call = 5).
Crew Chief Mike Everitt now has 2 points in the UEFL's Crew Division (1 Previous + 1 Correct Call = 2).
UEFL Standings Update
This is the 117th ejection of 2012.
This is the Angels' 4th ejection of 2012, T-1st in the AL West (LAA, OAK, TEX 4; SEA 1).
This is Mike Butcher's first ejection since April 28, 2008 (Charlie Reliford; QOC = Correct).
This is Mike Estabrook's first ejection since July 8, 2011 (David Ortiz, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Kevin Gregg, Jim Johnson; QOC = Correct/Fighting [Under 2012 Rules, QOC would be "Irrecusable"]).

I still want an explanation on Brian Knight (111).
ReplyDeleteI hope MLB posts a video for this. I have been unable to watch the embedded ones.
ReplyDelete@UmpsRule I'm sure they will but remember ejection videos is not mlb.com multimedia's top priority, its the scoring plays, top performances ,and amazing defensive plays (like Mike Trout's).
ReplyDeleteHow is there a px value for this pitch, but the Pitch FX graphs aren't released until after the game? Just wondering.
ReplyDeletePitch variables (such as px) are generated in real-time by MLB Gameday.
ReplyDeleteMike Butcher may not be the Angel's pitching coach after this season, the way things are going.
ReplyDeleteDoes it seem like there are more subordinate coaches getting tossed this year than previously?
ReplyDeleteFor those of you wanting a Knight explanation I posted my thoughts... Sorry I was Busy for a few days..
ReplyDeleteanother horrible announcer
ReplyDelete"the pitching coaches job is to stick up for his staff."
Seriously? Last time I checked his job was to make pitchers pitch better.
I wish I had a strike zone plot for my games. I was sure that was a beautiful strike 3 just coming back to catch the inside corner. I wonder how good I could become with that type of feedback (or realize just how bad I am and quit...).
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Will...
ReplyDeleteHey Gill or Jeremey I am sure you've just been busy but can we get a ruling on my challenge of the Justin Upton reason for ejection.
ReplyDeleteIn regards to Marquez/Upton, at this point, we do not have ample evidence to indicate the Reason should be changed. However, Reason for Ejection is one variable that is eligible for review during any seasonal phase, so if new evidence surfaces, the variable will still be open for consideration at that point (UEFL Rules 6-2-g & 6-3-j).
ReplyDeleteI still want a challenge on the Upton one. An umpire who ejects a person who was clearly and overwhelmingly not involved in the unsportsmanlike act may receive a QOC of “incorrect.”
ReplyDeleteWhat did Upton do!?
A four game series, Rangers v yankees, its gonna be a good one, wonder who the crew will be? if i were to guess, HP Brian Knight 1B: Wally Bell 2B: Mike Winters 3b: Mark Wegner
ReplyDeleteOr Tim Timmons, Eric Cooper, Jeff Kellogg, Marty Foster
ReplyDeleteThe commentating is pathetically idiotic...
ReplyDeleteThe grand question is...Why are you bitching enough to get tossed in the first inning of a scoreless game with your best pitcher on the mound? That may be even more pathetic.
And can someone with better earing than me transcribe the UEFL video. All I can hear is Estabrook's "They were all three inside" and "Get outta here".
ReplyDelete@Anon 10:43: The initial report was that Upton was ejected for throwing his helmet in the direction of the umpire(s). This may or may not be true, but since it was the originally listed reason for ejection and there's no video of the ejection available it's not going to be overturned unless someone recorded it.
ReplyDeleteHere's what I don't like. Weaver is your ace of the staff, he of all pitchers needs his coach to stick around longer than the top of the 1st inning. Butcher did absolutely nothing for Weave by getting heaved so early. Stupid mistake that might have rattled Jered and contributed to giving up that second home run to Montero. You'd think that had the pitching coach stuck around, he would have talked to Jered about the first one, seeing that his only responsibility during the game is to keep track of and coach his team's pitching!

ReplyDeleteNyjer morgan, a crazy fellow, loves being goofy, pointing at the crowd with his Jersey all messed up, hahah

Butcher: Let's ring 'em up in the 1st inning, hero.
ReplyDeleteEstabrook: The ball's inside. All three of them. How do you know?
Butcher: ALRIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
Estabrook: Get out of here! You're gone!
Butcher: That's F**ing Horse****! Horse****!
Anyone, Over or under 156 ejections this year?
ReplyDeleteUnder. 145
ReplyDeleteI think Estabrook says: "The ball's inside. All three of 'em. Not even close."
ReplyDeleteFor those wondering about the crew for the Yankees/Rangers series, just a guess but I'm thinking they might get the group that was just across town doing the Mets/Braves series this past weekend, which was O'Nora (acting CC), Vanover, Marquez, Fairchild. Hallion is the usual crew chief, but I assume he was on vacation.
ReplyDeleteI've noticed them doing that several times this year, where a crew will work one New York stadium, and then move across to the other.
Nope my second guess was right HP: Tim Timmons, 1B: Jeff Kellogg 2B: Victor Carapazza in for Eric Cooper, 3B: the thinks he the boss of everyone Marty Foster, not a big fan of his.
ReplyDeleteWhy/how is Angel Campos still in the league? I know this is off-topic, but I mean, guys like John Tumpane aren't even getting much of a look and we see this guy? Come on.
ReplyDeleteJerry Layne has ejected Bruce Bochy for arguing a safe call at first base. Replays show it was a bang bang call but Layne was probably incorrect. Very tough call though. It is on MLB.com gameday under the video "Bernadinha's RBI single"
ReplyDeleteButcher has to be smarter here. This is a fairly incidental call early, make that VERY early, in the ballgame. No need to argue and get tossed here.
ReplyDeletePitching coach got 1 game and an undisclosed fine for his idiotic tirade. That should happen more.
