Flynn's actions likely kept
pitcher Tarsi in the game. |
AA Braves-BayBears fight: HP Umpire Spencer Flynn ejected Mobile BayBears catcher Rossmel Perez & Manager Turner Ward and Mississippi Braves catcher Christian Bethancourt & second baseman Alden Carrithers for fighting in the top of the 9th inning of the Braves-BayBears game. With two on and two out, Braves batter Ryan Strieby took a 3-2 fastball from BayBears pitcher Michael Tarsi inside for ball four, the wild pitch sailing back to the screen with catcher Bethancourt in pursuit as baserunner R3 Perez broke for home plate. As Tarsi arrived to cover home plate, Perez had begun his feet-first slide, resulting in a collision at home, Perez sliding across the plate while upending Tarsi, who did not have the baseball. Replays indicate that because Perez had legally scored, there was no obstruction. As Tarsi then stood up, he and Perez became entangled, separated by Flynn before Bethancourt ran into the fray and attempted to tackle Perez, provoking a bench-clearing brawl and the ejection of two persons from each team. Braves pitcher Cory Rasmus had been ejected two batters earlier for intentionally throwing at Perez. At the time of the Rasmus ejection, the BayBears were leading, 7-2. At the time of the fighting ejections, the BayBears were leading, 7-3. The BayBears ultimately won the contest, 7-3.

One strike away from game's end, Perez takes out Tarsi, Bethancourt pushes Perez, benches clear
Were you even at the game???? Hello --- first of all Alden Carrithers was playing 3rd base and second the Baybabies did NOT ultimately win the contest, 7-3. Do you get paid to actually know nothing about??
ReplyDeleteI don't mean to be rude, but perhaps it's time to ask your doctor if Xanax is right for you.
DeleteSpeaking only for myself, I don't give one airborne copulation as to what position Alden Whoever was playing or who won the meaningless game. The important part is the incident itself, which the authors correctly reported.
Calm down anon 6:54. First of all, why would Gil or Jeremy need to be at the game and second of all they don't get paid for anything on this site. It was probably just some miswriting of some information. Not the end of the world.

ReplyDeleteApparently every Rockies defender lost track of the out total. Seems almost ironic that Cory Blaser would be the plate ump here, given that 3 of his 4 EJ's have been Rockies.
To clarify, that's total career ejections for Blaser. Brownie points to the first person to tell me who the non-Rockie ejectee was.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous 6:54 PM, welcome to Close Call Sports and the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League.
ReplyDeleteBe advised that all ejections and incidents are depicted in a fashion pursuant to UEFL Rule 7-2, which specifies that in all instances of disputed information, "the listing in the official box score shall prevail."
Because the box score lists Carrithers as the second baseman, this official information prevails.
Because the box score lists the final result as BayBears 7-3, this official information prevails.
Thank you for your interest in the ejection/incident write-up process!
Here is a pretty crazy play that happened in Milwaukee.
ReplyDelete3 arguments going on at the same time with 3 different umpires.

ReplyDeleteBrian o nora ejected bobby v i repeat ejectiin wow
ReplyDeleteCCS Brian went down got hit so did middlsbrooks is that inconslusive need help CCS WOW. Never seen that
ReplyDeleteStandby all. Threads to come on both the Milwaukee play AND the O'Nora play. The Milwaukee play is fascinating and an in-depth look at the Rules Book in relation to "Time" is forthcoming, so hold off for that thread!
ReplyDeleteBeckett ejected, too. Clearly incorrect call, but can't blame O'Nora for missing it -- he got drilled and went down on the pitch.
ReplyDeletei think it was fairchild's call- (i.e. incorrect call crewmate)- hard to argue he was hit- i think the question was whether he offered or now?
ReplyDeleteBelieve Cory Blaser's non Rockie ejection was White Sox player Alex Rios (against the Orioles?) for arguing balls and strikes. Can also recall Hawk Harrelson complaining in his homer style that the game ended on a blown call by Blaser
ReplyDeleteSurprised Fairchild didn't say anything.
ReplyDeleteHallion could've thrown out more red sox players, he was staring at them for long time. You didn't actually see Hallion"s ejection because espn was looking at the replay, you only saw hallion yell your gone

ReplyDeleteFor some weird reason the vid has not come up yet on the ejections, prob still uploading
Discussion related to the BOS/NYY ejections may be found here: Ejection 102: Tom Hallion (2).

ReplyDeleteYou are correct, Rios is Blaser's only non-Rockie ejectee.
