1B Umpire Tom Hallion ejected Royals second baseman Chris Getz for arguing an out call in the bottom of the 4th inning of the Tigers-Royals game. With two out and none on, Getz grounded out on an 0-1 slider from Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello to shortstop Jhonny Peralta to first baseman Miguel Cabrera. Replays indicate that Getz contacted first base before Peralta picked the ball off the ground, the call was incorrect. At the time of the ejection, the Tigers were leading, 5-3. The Tigers ultimately won the contest, 6-4.

I have watched this cast several times and unfortunately it is a bastard call that Hallion misses. The Royals cast had the best angle in which you see the ball bouncing the foot hitting the bag and Cabrara then catching the ball.... Absolutely amazing play and well handled situation by Hallion.
ReplyDeleteI would expect it to be ruled as inconclusive on here b/c the mlb.com EJ only shows the short ejection and the good view of the play comes after the commercial break.

The Detroit feed has a video called 'Peralta's Nice Play' that shows the replay on my MLB At Bat '11 iPad app. Still not a good slow motion replay, but nevertheless the call is very bang-bang, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was incorrect. Nevertheless it was extremely close.
