2B Umpire Dana DeMuth ejected Rays pitcher David Price and Rays second basemen Elliot Johnson for arguing ball calls made by HP Umpire Vic Carapazza in the top of the 8th inning of the Cardinals-Rays game. With two outs and one on, Cardinals batter David Freese took a 3-2 slider from Rays pitcher J.P. Howell for ball four. The subsuqent Cardinal batter, Colby Rasmus, hit a three-run home run. There were no callable pitches in the Rasmus at bat. Replays indicate there were no incorrect callable pitches during the Freese at bat, the call was correct. At the time of both ejections, the Cardinals were leading, 5-0. The Cardinals ultimately won the contest, 5-3.
These are Dana DeMuth (32)'s second and third ejections of 2011.
Dana DeMuth now has 9 points in the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League (3 Previous + 2 MLB + 1 Correct Call [Crewmate] + 2 MLB + 1 Correct Call [Crewmate]) = 9.
Dana DeMuth was not drafted in 2011.
These are the 96th and 97th ejections of 2011.
These are the 42nd and 43rd player ejections of 2011.
David Price and Elliot Johnson did not participate in this contest.
This is David Price's second ejection of 2011.

David Price must not be able to keep his trap shut because this is the second time (John Tumpane's ejection in Detroit) that he has been run from the bench.
ReplyDeleteAlso, as we sure it was DeMuth who tossed Price? In the video it looks like Doug Eddings is motioning for someone to leave on the bench
wow a lot of ejections by undrafted umpires.
ReplyDeletePrice and Johnson were not arguing any calls, they were arguing that Howell got tossed for getting pissed at himself. The call was incorrect, tell the umpires to get out of the dugout
ReplyDeleteThis news story credits the second two EJs to Doug Eddings.

That pitcher acted like a six-year old. I'd have run him too.
David Price seems to be getting ejected an awful lot from games that he isn't a part of. He needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. Good job by Dana to get him started on the path of "shut the hell up"
ReplyDeleteLooks like Jerry Layne got one at Shea tonight too.

Jerry Layne ejected Terry Collins tonight in the Mets/Yankees game. Yet another close play at third base involving Jose Reyes. I'll wait until a post is created for that ejection to discuss the play.

Thanks Jon, I'll look into the story. We'll stay with the official box score for now.
ReplyDeleteJon and Dan, the Layne write up is coming. Thank you.
Lol Jon, Shea is long gone. It's a parking lot now.
ReplyDeleteYou're in good company, though. Keith Hernandez still says Shea all the time during Mets games. They used to make him put $5 in a cup every time he would call Citi Field "Shea", and then they donated the money to charity at the end of the season. Their first year in the new stadium, they collected over $100 from Keith.
I am really tired of the "he was mad at himself" excuse that all these teams use. He was upset that he didnt get the call so he pitched a fit, and got kicked out. End of story.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the anonymous poster who was up so unconscionably early.
ReplyDelete"Mad at himself" is not an excuse for that level of unsportsmanlike behavior. That looked like a pre-school temper tantrum, and if a grown man can't control himself long enough to take it to the dugout (a la Brian Wilson last night), then he deserves the early shower.
As for guys in the dugout, they don't need to defend teammates who have already been run. They also don't get run just for opening their mouths. I'm sure the whole dugout has something to say, and these guys stood out. If the umpire can pick you out of the crowd, it's not a good thing.
You don't want me in your dugout, then STFU...and if you're yelling at my partner, you're yelling at me, and someone is going to go.
ReplyDeleteAlfonso Marquez dumped Jon Rauch in Toronto, not over the shown play. Probably balls and strikes.
