Ejections: Chad Fairchild (1, 2)

HP Umpire Chad Fairchild ejected Blue Jays Manager John Farrell for arguing a ball two call in the bottom of the 7th inning and Rays center fielder B.J. Upton for arguing a strike three call in the bottom of the 9th inning of the Blue Jays-Rays game. In the 7th, with two out and two on, Rays batter John Jaso hit a 2-2 fastball from Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow to Blue Jays right fielder Rajai Davis for a single. Farrell was ejected during the subsequent pitching change, which, under UEFL Rule 6.e.iv.b., makes this ejection eligible for review of the entire Morrow-Jaso at bat. Replays indicate the 1-2 pitch was located belt high and over the inner half of home plate, the call was incorrect. In the 9th, with none out and none on, Upton took a 1-2 fastball from Blue Jays pitcher Frank Francisco for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located belt high and several inches off the inside edge of home plate, the call was incorrect. At the time of both ejections, the Blue Jays were leading, 3-1. The Blue Jays ultimately won the contest, 3-2.

These are Chad Fairchild (75)'s first and second ejections of 2011.
Chad Fairchild now has -4 points in the Umpire Ejection Fantasy League (0 Previous + 2 MLB + -4 Incorrect Call + 2 MLB + -4 Incorrect Call = -4).
Chad Fairchild was not drafted in 2011.

These are the 25th and 26th ejection of 2011.
This is the 14th Manager ejection of 2011.
This is the 10th player ejection of 2011.

Chad Fairchild had an absolutely brutal game. He's at fault for Joe's ejection too, so that's 3 on him.

That crew is epically bad.

chad fairchild.

his zone must have been brutal.

but i can see why he thought the swipe was there. but the timing cant be gotten from the PU in this case

Rough game for this whole crew- Fairchild was awful, I think West blew a few more too at first...but I actually think it was Angel who piped in on West's ejection for the call reversal (based on what I could see)

BJ Upton is a punk. I hope that costs him a game or two.

My goodness. Take Paul Schrieber off this crew and replace him with "Balkin'" Bob Davidson and you could perhaps have the worst crew in MLB history!

Someone tell me why Joe didn't read the bad throw, take a few quick (ha!) steps, and adjust (lean and look) to get the tag?

I don't understand how the fundamentals of umpiring just disappear because a guy like West is in the big leagues for 30 years. Get fat, get slow, and stop working, I guess. It's embarrassing. I put in a better effort in my HS game where I'm only making $60.

I'm all for giving umpires the benefit of the doubt but Fairchild was horrendous, not one of the three pitches he punched Upton out on were strikes

No video on the pitches for the first one, not much to comment on except all the calm.

On the second one, the pitch doesn't look that bad in real time. Upton needs to learn a better way to deal with his frustration. Three strikeouts in one night is tough, but Fairchild didn't deserve that, and I think I saw contact. Fairchild showed amazing calm in the face of that tirade.

Fairchild should be suspended for failure to perform to a professional level.

Here's discussion of all three ejections, including Fairchild's aggregate pitch chart from Brooks.

Upton needs to sit for a game or two. I know Fairchild made a bad call, but that kind of behavior is uncalled for.

I agree with the first poster that this crew is epically bad.

Major League Baseball has suspended B.J. Upton for two games and fined him an undisclosed amount for "inappropriate conduct." He is appealing the punishment.
