1B Umpire Larry Vanover ejected Red Sox Manager John Farrell for arguing a ball two (check swing) call in the bottom of the 7th inning of the Red Sox-Braves game. With two out and two on, Braves batter Pedro Ciriaco attempted to check his swing on a 1-1 fastball from Red Sox pitcher Tommy Layne. Play was reviewed and adjudicated by the UEFL Appeals Board (5-2-0), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Braves were leading, 4-2. The Braves ultimately won the contest, 5-2.
