Jim Joyce suffered a torn calf muscle and is on the umpire's Disabled List. His projected DL time is 3-4 weeks after tearing his calf during Monday's Royals-Mariners game. Joyce finished the game and was replaced Tuesday by Pat Hoberg.
On Tuesday, plate umpire Greg Gibson additionally took a direct shot on an errant 88 mph cutter from Mariners pitcher Mike Montgomery, as catcher Mike Zunino was unable to glove the high pitch. After consultation with Mariners training staff and quick visual inspection of his hockey-style mask, Gibson remained in the game.

Meanwhile in Miami, plate umpire Adam Hamari was knocked back by an uncaught 95 mph fastball from Cardinals pitcher Kevin Siegrist that took a slight deflection off catcher Yadier Molina's mitt and struck the center of Hamari's chest protector. Like Gibson, Hamari stayed in the game.
