2B Umpire Dan Iassogna ejected Reds 3B Coach Steve Smith for arguing an out of the base path call in the top of the 7th inning of the Reds-Brewers game. With none out and one on, Reds batter Zack Cozart hit a 3-2 fastball from Brewers pitcher Jeremy Jeffress on the ground to second baseman Scooter Gennett, who attempted to tag Reds baserunner R1 Ryan Ludwick before throwing to Brewers first baseman Matt Clark ahead of Cozart for a double play. Replays indicate Ludwick appeared to deviate by greater than three feet from his established base path at the time of the tag attempt, the call was correct.* At the time of the ejection, the Brewers were leading, 3-1. The Brewers ultimately won the contest, 9-2.
This is Dan Iassogna (58)'s third ejection of the 2014 MLB Regular Season.
Dan Iassogna now has 7 points in the UEFL Standings (3 Prev + 2 MLB + 2 Correct Call = 7).
Crew Chief Dale Scott now has 8 points in Crew Division (7 Previous + 1 Correct Call = 8).
Rule 7.08(a)(1) states that a runner is out when,"He runs more than three feet away from his base path to avoid being tagged unless his action is to avoid interference with a fielder fielding a batted ball. A runner’s base path is established when the tag attempt occurs and is a straight line from the runner to the base he is attempting to reach safely."
This is the 188th ejection of the 2014 MLB Regular Season.
This is the Reds' 5th ejection of 2014, 5th in the NL Central (CHC, PIT 8; STL 7; MIL 6; CIN 5).
