HP Umpire Gary Darling ejected Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez for arguing a strike call in the top of the 7th inning of the Brewers-Astros game. With two out and three on, Gomez took a 2-2 cutter from Brewers pitcher Mickey Storey for a called third strike. Replays indicate the pitch was located knee high and over the inner half of home plate (-.577, -.853), the call was correct. At the time of the ejection, the Astros were leading, 5-4. The Astros ultimately won the contest, 6-5, in 10 innings.

Great pitch, though with all that movement to the cut fastball, I can see why Gomez thought that was a ball, it did finish fairly low and in, but it started out very well at the front edge of the plate.
Note Darling transfering his headgear from left to right hand before the toss out...
Gary Darling is sooooo awkward! LOL. Gum then mask, what's next? A baseball?
That is a good one.
Yeah, I'm not sure Gary Darling is the most coordinated person in the world. That's a pretty classic video. Between this, and the gum on Bobby V, Gary has had some funny incidents this year.
Gary looks like a clown in this video. The gum is understandable; could happen to anyone. But how the hell does he forget he has his mask in his right-hand when making the EJ? That's something you'd see during a midweek, in-house game.
Whoever decided to play the Price is Right fail horn is a genius.

Again, MLB does a horrific job telling batters that a pitch doesn't necessarily have do be down the middle to be called a strike.
Perhaps this explains why Darling does not use an elaborate punch out... lots of moving parts could present a big risk to him and other participants :)
Ha! What an epic fail. Gotta love the guy...
he he the only ump without a strike three mechanic that is not any different from a regular strike call?
